The Ewart Building, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

The Ewart Building

The three-storey building was opened in January 1969 for the then Hamilton and District School of Medical Technology. After several changes of control, the building was taken over by the Central Business Office of Chedoke Hospital.

On 3 December 1999, the name of the building was changed to the Ewart Building, in honour of the late Dr. Hugo Ewart who had been Medical Superintendent of the Mountain Sanatorium from 1947 to 1970.

The lobby features a display of historical photographs of the sanatorium and a collection of Inuit artwork, which was created by Inuit patients during their stay at the sanatorium during the 1950's.
